OVERSEAS MISSIONS

INTRODUCTION

The first CCOWE was held in 1976, Hong Kong. In the same year, CCOWE set up more than 20 regional councils around the world, established network with Chinese churches, and actively promoted the work of evangelism among churches. Under the calling of CCOWE, some church leaders in Malaysia began preaching and initiating the work of mission in their own churches. Klang Chinese Methodist Church (KCMC) is one of them.

Starting from 1979, KCMC began to set foot on the road of evangelism. In the blink of an eye, KCMC had been involved in mission work for more than a quarter of a century. The following outlines the work of KCMC over the past 36 years.

1. Annual Mission Conference

Mission Conference aims to deliver the vision Global Evangelism as well as to educate the faithful followers in obeying and following Christ’s commandment, the Great Commission. As of last year, the church has held 26 Mission Conferences. The consciousness of the "Great Commission" is now deeply rooted in the hearts of believers.

2. Implementation of Mission Offering Every Year

The highlight of the Annual Mission Conference would be the pledging of mission offering by the members. After pledging the amount for the annual mission offering, believers would offer as what had been promised in the following year through monthly mission offering. The first mission budget in 1979 was RM 20,000, later on, an increase in the following years was observed. KCMC collected 1.17 million as of last year. The total offering collected over these 26 years amount to RM 13 million. Offerings collected were used to participate and support the following ministries: Ministry of local evangelism (see below), domestic missionaries (currently 12), foreign missionaries (currently 28), mission organizations (currently 26), theological education (7 Seminaries), social care and relief organizations (10 organizations), unreached people group, missionaries and other ministry training, and etc.

When making decisions on the mission budget, we adhere and give priority to the following three basic principles:

a. The direct involvement of the church: regardless of the geographical location, domestic or international, all mission and evangelical work recognized and directly participated by the church pastors or members.

b. Chinese people at home and abroad: We believe that the priority should be given to the Chinese locally and abroad. This is not nationalism; instead it is out of duty! The Bible teaches us that “If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." (1st Tim 5: 8) Previously, the Western missionaries had paid a great price in bringing the Gospel to the Chinese; now then, the Chinese churches today should be even more fervent in preaching to her own people.

c. Unreached and Un-evangelized People groups: those who live in isolated areas, such as Middle Eastern countries and totalitarian countries. If the churches do not pay special attention to them, most of them would not have the opportunity to hear the Gospel at all! Nevertheless, the Churches today can reach them with the Gospel through many channels (such as gospel radio, literature, 帶職宣教士 and etc). Reaching to the Unreached People Groups is a responsibility which the universal churches cannot shirk; each church needs to bear the burden of Christ.

3. China's Ministry

Since 2001, we had carried out the following ministries in a province of China:

a. Medical Ministry: teaming up with the local church (the church has about 30 very committed Christian doctors and professional medical personnel), and providing 6 to 8 times free clinical services, and medicine to the poor rural areas.

b. Education Ministry: sponsoring the basic education fees for 1000 poor students per year. Each primary school students require RMB300 each year to maintain their education.

c. Living Assistance: Assisting the local staffs by providing living allowances.
